Enzo Maresca matches Premier League record with sixth successive win

Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca has equalled the Premier League record for the most consecutive victories at the start of a managerial spell with a new club.

The Italian’s side beat Liverpool 3-0 on Sunday, making it six wins from six league games since he replaced Pep Guardiola in the summer.

Guardiola is one of only three managers to have previously achieved the feat. He won his first six Premier League matches in charge of City in the 2016-17 season.

Carlo Ancelotti matched the mark after taking over at Chelsea in 2009-10, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did the same following his appointment at Manchester United in December 2018.

A victory against Ipswich Town next Saturday would see Maresca set a new record. No manager has ever won their first seven Premier League games with a new club.

City’s previous wins under Maresca came against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry City, Manchester United and Sunderland.
