Swansea 2-1 Norwich: Idah seals comeback for Championship leaders

Adam Idah returned to haunt his former club as Championship leaders Swansea City came from behind to beat Norwich City 2-1 at the Swansea.com Stadium and open up a four-point gap at the top of the table.

Jacob Wright put the visitors ahead against the run of play in the 28th minute, finishing from close range after Oscar Schwartau’s low cross following a quick counter. Swansea had started brightly, with Moussa Yeo testing Vladan Kovacevic and Idah squandering a clear chance after being played through by Joseph Opoku, but they were made to pay for their lack of clinical edge.

Idah continued to threaten before the break, denied by a fine Kovacevic save from a Yeo cross and then heading over, while a late half-chance from a spilled Goncalo Franco shot saw the striker’s improvised backheel go wide. Norwich led at the interval, but the second half belonged to the hosts.

Just four minutes after the restart, Swansea were level. Melker Widell released Josh Tymon down the left and his first-time cross evaded Idah at the near post, allowing Yeo to take a touch and fire home at the far post for his third goal in as many games. The equaliser transformed the atmosphere and the home side’s intensity.

Ten minutes later the turnaround was complete. Widell delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right and Idah rose to glance a header past Kovacevic, the Republic of Ireland international making amends for his earlier misses against the club where he began his career. Idah’s afternoon ended shortly afterwards when he limped off injured and was replaced by Zan Vipotnik.

Norwich pushed late on, with Lawrence Vigouroux tipping away a Sam Field effort and Jovon Makama heading over in stoppage time, but Swansea stood firm. Filip Lissah produced a vital block to deny substitute Anthony Musaba as Vitor Matos’s side secured a sixth win of the season and strengthened their grip on top spot. Norwich remain mid-table and still searching for consistency after another defeat.
