Bayern Munich 2-2 Borussia Dortmund: Late Silva Equaliser Denies Leaders in Klassiker Thriller
Bayern Munich were denied a chance to pull clear at the top of the Bundesliga as Borussia Dortmund earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Konrad Laimer’s first-half strike put the hosts ahead, but Serhou Guirassy equalised early in the second period before Dayot Upamecano restored Bayern’s lead. Substitute Fábio Silva then snatched a late equaliser in the 89th minute to ensure the points were shared in a pulsating Klassiker.
The home side dominated much of the contest and created the clearer chances, yet they were frustrated by the woodwork and by Harry Kane’s missed penalty. The Ballon d’Or winner struck the crossbar from the spot in the 56th minute, and the visitors capitalised soon after when Carney Chukwuemeka’s cut-back allowed Guirassy to level. Upamecano’s close-range finish, assisted by Kane, put Bayern back in front within six minutes, but Dortmund refused to yield.
Silva’s late goal, set up by Konstantinos Karetsas after a corner, punished Bayern’s failure to kill the game. The hosts had further opportunities in the closing stages, including a stoppage-time effort from Lennart Karl that struck the woodwork, but they could not find a winner. Bayern also suffered a string of injuries, with Serge Gnabry, Ismael Saibari and Michael Olise all forced off.
The result leaves both sides level on 18 points after eight matches. Bayern remain top on goal difference, while Dortmund stay firmly in the title conversation after a spirited display under pressure. Vincent Kompany’s side will reflect on a missed opportunity to stretch their lead, while Niko Kovac’s Dortmund can take encouragement from their resilience in one of the season’s defining fixtures so far.
